Temporary closure of Sheffield Archives

Dear colleagues,

The Sheffield Archives service point at Shoreham Street, Sheffield will be closing from 11 October 2010 until late summer 2011 for essential building and maintenance work.  A limited archive service will be made available via Sheffield Central Library (Surrey Street, Sheffield, S1 1XZ).

       
The key dates for the project are:

9 Oct the last day of normal service at Shoreham Street.

11 Oct - 23 Dec 2010 Archives and Conservation staff will be bar-coding and removing over 45,000 boxes of material to a secure store.

From 18 Oct 2010 fiche and film services (which includes the most popular genealogical records such as church registers, census returns, cemetery registers, rate books, etc.) together with the Archive catalogues and other finding aids will be available at the Local Studies Library in Sheffield Central Library.

From 4 Jan 2011 a limited archive issue service will be available at the Local Studies Library.

Late Summer 2011 the service point at Shoreham Street will reopen.
