Dear Chris

Here at Portsmouth we will be delivering a conference on the 18th of April 2011 with the title -

" Making involvement meaningful: how do we ensure involvement of staff from minority groups makes a difference to both the organisation and individual?"

We are having a speaker from the ECU on the Equality Act 2010 and involvement, another speaker from the private sector and I will be talking about our experience here at Portsmouth in involving staff in the equality impact assessment process and staff networks. There will also be workshops and a display area with stands. We will make a charge to cover our costs.

If you would like to discuss conference planning in more detail do give me a call and I would be happy to share our experience.

I imagine that there would be interest in a conference in your neck of the woods as so much happens within London and the South.

I will be sending out more details about our conference nearer the date.

Kind regards

Alex

We are considering organising an Equality Conference some time next year and I would like to seek some feedback on format, content, level of hospitality, venue etc. Please reply offline to [log in to unmask]

You will be aware of a lot of such events particularly around the Equality Act and with a format including one or two keynotes and a range of workshops (often repeated in subsequent sessions)

Can you please let me know:

1. Would you or any college, university, NHS Equality specialists, managers or academics in your organisation attend a conference which included a mix of equality issues around health, implementing legislation and academic research into equality and diversity?

2. Would an exhibition of equality suppliers, charities and training providers be attractive alongside the conference?

3. Would you attend if this was a) free b) at minimal charge to cover costs c) at commercial rates?

4. What level of speakers would be attractive? International figures? Scottish experts? EHRC/ECU specialists? University, NHS academics and practitioners?

5. Would the format described above be more attractive than interactive workshops, with only panel Q and A sessions in plenary?

6. Would Glasgow city centre/central belt be more attractive/accessible than a rural location?

7. Would you prefer a sandwich lunch hot buffet or sit down meal?

Thanks for your help
