The Department of German Studies within the Division of Literatures, Cultures and Languages (DLCL) at Stanford University is seeking applications for a tenured associate professor in German Literature to begin September 1, 2011. The area of specialization is open. Candidates are assumed to hold the Ph.D. and must demonstrate a distinguished record of scholarly publication as well as excellence in teaching, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. They should combine a significant research specialization with extensive familiarity with German literature and culture in order to teach a broad range of courses. Comparative and/or theoretical approaches are welcome. Native or near-native fluency in German (and English) is required. Applicants must be able to teach in a wide variety of areas. They should be prepared to collaborate not only with colleagues in German Studies, but also across the Division of Literatures, Cultures and Languages, and participate in appropriate interdisciplinary initiatives elsewhere at Stanford.
