Subject: Identification Query

Hello there!

Hope allıs well in sunny Leeds.

I was wondering if the Group might be able to help me with a spot of object
identification, please?

A gentleman came into Discovery Museum in Newcastle the other day with an
antique surgical instrument (see attached photos) hoping we could tell him a
bit more about it but itıs got us stumped. Itıs similar to forceps but with
a third ³finger², and is cunningly contrived so that the three ³fingers² at
the business end open and close together when the screw at the other end is
turned. It was made by the Newcastle firm of Brady & Martin, probably in
the late 19th century or possibly early 20th, and part of the mechanism is
stamped with the number ³7².

Any more information would be gratefully received!

Many thanks,

Shona
