OPAL Communications Officer

Salary: £27,053 per annum plus benefits

The Open Air Laboratories Network celebrates biodiversity, environmental quality and people's engagement with nature. From water surveys to bio blitzes, OPAL projects get people face to face with nature, contributing to our understanding of the world around us. 

The OPAL Communications Officer works at the Natural History Museum with project partners to develop media and marketing campaigns in support of major national projects and supports regional activity, taking advantage of the opportunities presented by specific projects to raise OPAL's profile.

As well as a strategic and creative thinker with proven ability in a communications environment, you will also be a highly organised team player, outgoing and positive, with superb organisational and planning skills.  Ideally, you will share our passion for the natural world.

Enter a weird and wonderful world, 11,000 metres down in the ocean, less explored than the surface of the Moon. See bizarre creatures, astonishing images and real specimens, some on the display for the first time.

 

Butterfly Explorers, until 26 September 2010

Pick up your passport and come aboard for a butterfly expedition. Sail the world to explore diverse habitats and see the spectacular butterflies that live in them. Observe their behaviour and spot different stages of their life cycles. Find out why some species are under threat and discover what you might find fluttering about in your own back garden.

 

Darwin Centre

Journey through the eight-storey high, 65 metre-long cocoon and discover the collections and research areas. You can watch scientists as they prepare, mount and study some of the Museum's millions of insect and plant specimens to understand the major threats facing our planet today.
