Ah, that is exactly what happened with my 3! They already
understood how OH works, confidentiality and had a good relationship with the
punters – as I was part-time she was also able to complete routine screening
when I wasn’t there and as a first aider was able to respond if required.
The other chap at another site also had a admin/OHT role
(although he had a background in fitness training and nutrition!) so took on
the health promotion/education responsibilities too!
The main reason we did this was because we couldn’t
recruit decent OHA (qualified or unqualified!!) so we had no
choice............!

the reason I ask - I have a brill admin support who is dead keen -
I would like to extend the scope of what she does , i`m think OHT type work,
doubt i could swing for her to have an OHT "post" at the moment due
to recruitment freeze......

Hi Sharon,
After an initial period of "OMG" what is an OH Technician
supposed to do? I am now a convert and fan. The ones that I have
worked with are great and have been able to do much in the way of Audiometry
and Spirometry (Clinically Supervised).

Hiya,
My experience of 3 OH technicians has been fab! They worked very
independently too – doing routine tasks including screening with
automated machines.
As long as there are clear guidance and procedures in place and
they are well supervised and competency assessed etc.... it works well!
Cheers,
Cath

views on such or similar grades doing phlebotomy training to take bloods for
Hep B antibodies?
