seems to me that your objection to having crosses under foot rules out the
footstool solution, Hank.

i'm still not reading it as "slanted," Cyprian.

if it *is* slanted, it must be only slightly so, which minimal slantedness
would obviate the need for any sort of "lip" at the downside end.

it wouldn't seem to work as some sort of supplementary [book]stand, meant to
go on top of any sort of [slanted] lectern, either.

among other things, that would necessitate a "lip."

still and all, a book stand --flat or ever so slightly slanted [why?]-- to go
on the top of a desk, sounds most likely.

it is clearly an object intended more for a decorative (or even liturgical)
purpose than for a [purely] practical one.

maybe we should wait and just see how Madonna use it in the movie?
