You may have some very special material in your collection – newspapers, letters, manuscripts, photographs, moving images. Digitising this material may be the best way to preserve it for the future and to ensure ongoing access. But what are the issues? Why are standards important? How do we apply metadata?
Explore some of these issues with the help of two local experts.

Martin Hayes is County Local Studies Librarian for West Sussex Library Service.
He has been involved in several projects in West Sussex, digitising photographs and other local studies material.

Elaine Sheppard is Collections Development Manager at Screen Archive South East.
She has been involved in developing metadata standards for the UK film archive sector and deals with metadata issues at Screen Archive South East.

The event will take the form of two short presentations, a discussion and a tour of the Digitisation Unit in Worthing library. There will also be tea and cakes.

Venue: Worthing Public Library Lecture Theatre - Thursday 7th October 2010, 2-4.30pm
