Teaching and advising at the undergraduate and graduate degree. Conduct schlolarly research and perform University and community service as appropriate.

Additional Information:

The International Studies Major at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks tenure-track assistant professors with teaching and research expertise in either of two fields: (1) a place-based approach to globalization, i.e., the study of international or global transformations from the vantage point of persons or institutions experiencing and shaping these transformations in a region outside of the U.S.; or (2) a place-based approach to human rights, with particular attention to economic opportunity and/or ecosystem vitality and livability as human rights questions playing out in place. In general, within these broad rubrics we seek a scholar who has demonstrated a commitment to approaching global issues from a base of area knowledge derived from field research outside the U.S. and who possesses a rich understanding of global process and theory.

The tenure home and half of the teaching responsibilities each appointee (including graduate-level teaching and advising) will be in an academic department such as Anthropology, Geography, Political Science, or Sociology. The applicant may wish to suggest in the letter of application which UW-Madison department might be most suitable for an appointment. It need not be one of those listed above.

The International Studies Major is an interdisciplinary undergraduate instructional unit. The emerging focus of the Major is the human-welfare aspects of global processes informed by theory and area studies knowledge. The appointee will be expected to be a full member of the International Studies Major community and build a research, teaching, and service record commensurate with the tenure expectations and standards of the appointing department and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The anticipated teaching load is two courses per semester, half in the International Studies Major, half in the tenure home department.
