Yes, it's potentially quite vulnerable. We have supplied a removable
aluminium shroud, similar to the protective plastic cover that it is
delivered with but easier to doff/don, which is fitted when the j/s is not
actually in use.

We've used the mini joystick successfully both with (inset into a small
hole) and without tray. Mostly with MD clients. As others have commented some
thought needs to go into supporting hand/arm optimally. Another problem is
durability partly because it's almost impossible to find a position of the
joystick that doesn't rely on it having to be moved out of/into position
during transfers. Then you're depending on the care of carers. It's an
expensive item to hold in stock for emergency repair/replacement but we've
had to because of supplier (and purchasing process) lead times

Finger in hole joystick doesn't just allow water ingress - we have found
peas!

Dear all
I'm casting around for ideas following a trial with PS2 & Wii joysticks
for driving wheelchairs. Technically they work fine, but my client
doesn't have enough movement for them.

What are people using? He hasn't tried the DX mini, because so far, he
won't accept mounting it in a hole in the wheelchair tray. Does the 10g
deflection give us a better chance than the 50g of the Wii?

I don't think he's tried the DX "finger in the hole" joystick. Have
people had success with this in Muscular Dystrophy?
