If you have some background of statistics and looking to enter the field of health and medicine, our Biostatistics 2 course provides an introduction to some key topics. While Biostatistics 1 is recommended, most of the topics in Biostatistics 2 can be undertaken on their own by anyone with a grounding in basic statistical inference. This course covers basic principles of design of randomized clinical trials, ROC curves, relative risk and odds ratio, and introductory survival analysis.The course will be presented online from September 10 to October 8, 2010. The instructor for this course is Dr A. Indrayan, the author of Medical Biostatistics (2nd edition, CRC Press) and Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, Delhi University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi. He frequently provides consultation to the World Health Organization, the World Bank and UNAIDS for their medical and health projects. The course will require about 15 hours per week and there are no set hours when you must be online. Participants can ask questions with the instructor and exchange comments via a private discussion board through the period. Weekly lessons will be assigned and homeworks will be graded. Participants should have access to a standard statistical software package for use during the course.
