The United Nations has created (General Assembly, 30 June 2010), a unified agency - UN Women - to carry forward the work of women's development worldwide. The complete press release is posted in http://www.wedo.org There is more information in http://www.gearcampaign.org/ I think this is a very positive development, and sets the stage for making gender equality an important part of the agenda at the UN MDG Summit, 20-22 September 2010, http://www.un.org/en/mdg/summit2010 It will be interesting to see how some religious institutions react and what kind of collaboration they will offer to the new agency.
