Part-Time Archives Assistant (Graduate Trainee)

We are seeking a graduate with a proven career interest in archives to carry out administrative and customer service duties, whilst participating in a training and development programme. The postholder will be guided through special project work, in particular cataloguing collections of private papers, and associated promotional work including assisting with the production of an image gallery.

The programme as a whole aims to provide the vital work experience required for the post holder to pursue a postgraduate qualification in archives and records management. 

This post would also be suitable for candidates planning to undertake part-time postgraduate study or distance learning in archives and records management.  

The post is 17.5 hours per week, worked over 3 days (Tuesday-Thursday each week). The contract period will run for two years from October 2010.  Starting salary will be in the range £19,456 - £23,849 per annum (pro rata). Benefits for this fixed term, part time position include, 30 days annual leave (pro rata) plus 4 college closure days, an interest free season ticket loan scheme, nursery and child care salary sacrifice schemes, and a contributory, final salary pension scheme.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
