Subject: [PSCI-COM] The STEM Programme - Enrichment and Enhancement

Dear All,

I am posting this on behalf of the Enrichment and Enhancement Strategic Management Group(the STEM E&E SMG), which includes the three lead organisations - SCORE, ACME and RAEng - for the Enrichment and Enhancement strands of the STEM programme (http://www.nationalstemcentre.org.uk/stem-programme/stem-programme) and STEMNET.

The STEM Programme exists to help make it easier for teachers and students to understand better what support is available to them and how it may help them meet their goals. The STEM Directories are an important part of the overall programme, as is the concept of evaluation so that teachers and others using STEM support are able to select the most appropriate assistance for their needs.

The STEM Directories have been widely welcomed as a useful, comprehensive resource by teachers, headteachers and others who use STEM support. The opportunity to apply for inclusion in the STEM Directories is offered to all STEM enhancement & enrichment providers, based on the requirements as outlined on the STEM Directories website and within the application process. The inclusion of a publicly available evaluation in these requirements from September 2011 offers an excellent opportunity for providers of schemes to demonstrate how their activity can benefit students and teachers. It will also help others understand the importance of effective enhancement & enrichment.

The STEM E&E SMG and the STEM Directories project team appreciate that there is considerable variation in appropriateness of scale and approach to evaluation across different types and size of activity. As a result, several exemplar case studies of several evaluations have been prepared for discussion at the BIG evaluation seminar events being held this year. The exemplars will be reviewed in light of feedback gathered from colleagues at the events, before being made freely available.

Best wishes,

Rosalind
SCORE Manager
