Thanks for the kind words Kate. My librarian antennae are vibrating at the possibility of a global science communication vacancies meta-list which will one day contain both your vacancies listings, and mine, along with any others :)

A good place to start might be doing an Ireland-restricted Google search for likely-sounding phrases like science, science communication, science communicator, public engagement, engineering, health, medicine etc. etc. - whatever field might employ someone to communicate something science-related (type site:ie science communication into the search bar) - this would probably bring up a few ideas that should hopefully spark other ones. Looks like you'll have quite a few organisations to include from the LinkedIn group already. Add to that any university press offices and science museums etc.

I've been building up my list over a long time and discovered plenty of organisations that I'd never even heard of during its expansion. Because of my experience and interests, my list is stronger on medical charities' communications but weaker on science centres, for example - so it's helpful to get ideas from other people and of course things like Twitter (and probably LinkedIn too) can help.

If you're putting together a list to share with others then I'd also recommend including the organisation's homepage as well as the vacancies page link as the organisation's main address is less likely to change but people move their vacancies pages far too often for my liking. It's also a bonus to include which word you searched for as there's not much consistency - jobs, vacancies, recruitment, work for us etc, are all used. I'd be more than happy to link to yours when you set one up.

Ever since I moved into the world of science communication in 2003 I've kept a list of places which might employ science communicators in London (and beyond).

At the time I was looking for a job myself and began to 'scope out the landscape' (sorry) of the science communication field, and that was probably the first time I came across many of the organisations with which I'm now very familiar. What I've tried to do with the list is to organise it into an admittedly random taxonomy (eg medical research charities, various scientific organisations that start with Royal etc). I'm not sure I've made much success of organising the information though, as I've ended up with an expanding and unwieldy collection of vacancies pages.

(Neither the title nor the URL are reliable as I've expanded it beyond London, and beyond Association of Medical Research charities as well.)

Most science communication jobs are probably advertised on psci-com (or ABSW-L, or Stempra etc) but some organisations either don't know about the mailing lists or don't necessarily think of their job as being 'science communication'.

I hope people find it a useful resource and what I'd really like is suggestions both for new categories and for new entries within categories. If you're reading this from your desk at work chances are they might be employing a science communicator or two (I've given the phrase a pretty wide remit) and if your organisation has a vacancies page I'd be happy to add it (mailto:[log in to unmask]).

Job adverts, and the accompanying job descriptions, tend to have a shortish half-life on the internet. The job is advertised, then closed, and so the completed job-advert page is removed from view.

My second collection has been about 'trapping' the job ads & descriptions while they're in the wild, for anyone to view later. The reasoning behind this is that there's information in them that might be useful to someone planning their next or next-but-one career move. Also it can be helpful to have info on recently closed jobs from the same organisation - it's a little bit of extra intelligence. Plus it's quite interesting just to see what's out there.

The collection lives at http://scicommjobs.posterous.com (takes a little while to load as it contains embedded files, which can be downloaded) - and as each job is posted it is automatically fed to a dedicated Twitter account at http://twitter.com/ScicommJobs
