I just remembered that I think it is Tesco who do not allow any medical personnel in the store in uniform anymore. Good on them.

Hi

If you see her again...ask her loudly not to stand near you as you dont know what is on her clothes and while she may be happy taking MRSA home you dont want it on your food or her in your operating theatre passing you any germs she may have picked up from the dirty wine bottles!

If she wants to announce to the world she is important and works in an operating theatre as a nurse, she should have no problems with you announcing to the world that she is carrying germs that she is passing around!

In my time in the xray dept (94-99) we wore scrubs under our lead coats as it got really hot in summer but we had very clear guidance in that our dresses had to be laundered by us (and that you get tax relief for this) however scrubs were washed by hospital laundry and not to be taken off site.

Jacqui

Now I really am going to be be Sharonasaurus now but not only was she wandering around in scrubs she was discussing with her friend very loudly what cider would get them the most "p*s**d" quickly that night - dont think that we should go back to the bad ol` days necessarily but surely there has to be some public faith in our profession, and this girl wasnt the best advert (actually she wasnt a mere slip of a girl - more like a mature woman in her mid thirties) . I have seen her before actually so may take a photo next time...............any OH in the NHS out there have any pointers as to what infection control policy is these days with regards wearing uniform in public?

And since when did the NHS NOT launder uniforms or provide a changing area? I am so out of touch - and to be honest fairly thankful for it at the moment

Sharon, firstly the dinosaurs survived much longer than man will. Secondly I am with you on this one.

We used to get in trouble for going near the hospital gates in uniform but don’t worry as nowadays we have infection control and czars to eliminate the problems which we never had back in the day so I guess this has to be classed as progress. People should start taking photographs of such things and send them to their local papers. Name and shame with the subtitle ‘this could be the person who infects you.

The system has the bulk of the responsibility IMO. My wife can work 5 days a week. She has 3 uniforms, no laundry service or changing room.

Sunday rant over.

I may be being a dinosaur here, and not necessarily an OH issue but when did it become acceptable practise to have nurses wandering around supermarkets in theatre scrubs bending over the fresh veg and salad? Please tell me she hadnt just come from work....its put me off my lunch
