Wish I could have thought of something as witty as this! Well said Janet and everyone else who responded. I somehow suspect that this eejit is posting on Jisc to stir us up and he/she/it is clearly succeeding. Perhaps a better approach would be to completely ignore anything written by him/her/it in the future? Surely he/she/it will then slink away and find someone else to irritate!

Just a thought!

Can I be frank - I`m at home in my own time so here goes my opinion. oh how bloody boring this fake foundling OH person is! (not you Lindsey) and thats only after a few posts. Are we to endure more of this? Emotive, clumsy language, badly formed arguments, complete misundersanding of what our discipline is meant to be about, yes we can hit the delete button but honestly I would just prefer that you take your agenda elsewhere - what are you waiting for? Someeone to say something controversial so they can be pilloried for it? The only thing I can realistically hope for is that you are indeed a fake - cos if you aint then you and your profferings will taint us all as a profession for ages.....

Dear Whoever you really are

There has been much debate in recent months about what this site is for and many of us – me included – have stretched the boundaries at times.  However, one thing I am certain it is not for is postings such as this.

Another thing I am certain about and happy to put my name to, is that OH is in far from terminal decline and as vibrant now as it always has been  - if not more so.  Different to the OH of 20 years ago and not without its challenges but vibrant none the less and this site is testament to that.

Please either own up to your identify or desist from such postings or I can imagine plenty  - also me included - calling for your removal.

Regards

Lindsey Hall

Hi

If your responsibilities include the health and well being of servicemen and women, then you ought to be aware that you only need to care about these matters part-time.  The UK Supreme Court has ruled that the Human Rights Act does not apply to the forces on active service once they are outside military bases and hospitals.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/libertycentral/2010/jun/30/human-rights-act-soldiers-battlefield

This means that these men and women who, we are told, are out in Afghanistan and Iraq getting killed to protect our rights to life, freedom from torture, family life and privacy, do not themselves benefit from these rights once they step outside base. If a soldier dies from heat exhaustion, or becomes deaf while firing weapons away from base, or damages his feet from ill-fitting boots worn away from base, or suffers from PTSD as a result of events that occurred outside base, then his employer will not have to be held to account, and we thought that Crown immunity had disappeared two decades ago.

To the subscribers who responded to my earlier posting (Miscalculation) with derision, I would like to suggest that one reason why occupational health seems to be rapidly plummeting into terminal decline could be that when it comes to politics, too many of us tend to bury our heads in the sand.  How boring would it be if all we could discuss on this site is how often to give hepatitis B boosters!  Of course this forum IS for political postings, when politics is at odds with what the profession supposedly stands for.  BTW, Your human rights include the right to hit the ‘delete’ button.

Yours ever

Aminot Goodenough
