Good
Morning……………
And
just one more response from a serving soldier who is also a Health and safety
Specialist…………………………..
Well
that first paragraph could suggest that we are all talking to a man (or woman)
in green, but there again maybe not! If who ever you are was serving in the
forces (or ex member) then they would realise that today’s Army is a lot more
liberal minded and believe me when I say that there are sooo many Human Rights
now that even the poor little hard done to soldiers think we have gone
overboard.
I
am currently a serving member of the armed forces and VERY proud to be so; my
partner is OH Specialist with more qualifications than you could shake a stick
at. I am currently training to join your small yet very professional society as
it is what I want for when I leave my current job and I can honestly say that
this 'person' does not represent either the British Army or Occupational Health
There
is no greater sacrifice than to lay down your life for your loved ones and for
your country but in order to try and prevent that sacrifice being made, there
are times where human rights have to be pushed temporarily to one side.
My
message to you sir is please do carry on posting on this forum as I am sure
that you are well intentioned and sincere in your beliefs but please please
please do think of others and think very carefully about what this forum is
about.

Hi
If your
responsibilities include the health and well being of servicemen and women,
then you ought to be aware that you only need to care about these matters
part-time. The UK Supreme Court has ruled that the Human Rights Act does
not apply to the forces on active service once they are outside military bases
and hospitals.
This means
that these men and women who, we are told, are out in Afghanistan and Iraq
getting killed to protect our rights to life, freedom from torture, family life
and privacy, do not themselves benefit from these rights once they step outside
base. If a soldier dies from heat exhaustion, or becomes deaf while firing
weapons away from base, or damages his feet from ill-fitting boots worn away
from base, or suffers from PTSD as a result of events that occurred outside
base, then his employer will not have to be held to account, and we thought
that Crown immunity had disappeared two decades ago.
To the
subscribers who responded to my earlier posting (Miscalculation) with derision,
I would like to suggest that one reason why occupational health seems to be
rapidly plummeting into terminal decline could be that when it comes to
politics, too many of us tend to bury our heads in the sand. How boring
would it be if all we could discuss on this site is how often to give hepatitis
B boosters! Of course this forum IS for political postings, when politics
is at odds with what the profession supposedly stands for. BTW, Your
human rights include the right to hit the ‘delete’ button.
Yours ever
Aminot
Goodenough
