I can’t trace this specific study, but a useful source for projects of this type would be NeLM Medicines Management which includes the relevant content from the former Pharm-line database.  It’s free to use, as well!

There’s a Jonathan Mason who’s head of prescribing and pharmacy for City & Hackney PCT and also the government’s ‘community pharmacy tsar’ at the Department of Health.  Not a professor as far as I’m aware, but he has been involved with the academic world.  He’s got a video blog at

Subject: Query re finding study regarding medication errors in nursing homes

Dear list,

I recently received an enquiry from a member who is hoping to begin a research project regarding medication errors in nursing homes and the efficacy of pharmacy interventions to reduce these errors.  The member has asked if I can locate the protocol for a record of a study currently being done by Professor Jason Mason on heart failure in care homes.

Has anyone come across this study before or can you suggest appropriate sources of information in which to search for this record?

I would be very grateful for any advice a list member could offer with this query and I will happily summarise responses for the list.

Kind regards,

Rachel Steele.
