Description
Are you a Twitterholic? Does your world revolve around the Blogosphere?

Does your library or information service have a blog or a twitter account? Do you follow twitter or read blogs to keep yourself professionally up-to-date? In this new age of innumerable ways to communicate information it is easy to feel overwhelmed. How are you using social media tools and what are you using? Social media tools are changing the landscape in the information world and driving us to rethink the ways in which we interact with users.

Delegates will be able to share their experiences of the issues surrounding the use of social media in libraries and discuss best practice. Those attending the event will be able to discuss various tools and the different ways in which librarians and libraries are using them as part of professional development or to communicate with their users.

This exchange of experience event will be of interest to anyone working with social media to communicate with users or network with peers. It will be facilitated by Lisa Jeskins and Lisa Charnock from Mimas, The University of Manchester. Several Mimas services use social media tools to communicate with users. Lisa Jeskins and Lisa Charnock have delivered sessions on social media (or Web 2.0) for NoWAL, UKeiG and RSC Yorkshire and Humber.

If you would like to deliver an informal presentation on this subject then please indicate this on the booking form. Presentations can last anything between 5-30 minutes. The aim of this event is to share experience and the more people who are willing to do this the more successful the event will be.

There will be plenty of opportunities for asking questions and networking with other attendees.

Description
Is your library ‘value for money’? As university budgets reduce, this is a question that all academic libraries will be under pressure to answer. Many of us are now grappling with words like ‘impact’, ‘value’ and ‘return on investment’, but what do they actually mean for us? How do we know what users want and how do we prove that our services have a real value and impact on the people that use them? Beyond surveys and evaluation forms, what else can we do to engage with users and demonstrate the value of library services? This event will, offer an opportunity to share ideas about new and creative ways to ascertain and communicate the importance of the library to users.

This exchange of experience event will be of interest to anyone with responsibility for demonstrating impact, and to those involved with promoting take-up of services and/or obtaining and responding to feedback from users. It will be facilitated by Lisa Charnock and Lisa Jeskins from Mimas, The University of Manchester, who have both recently undertaken work to explore the value to users of library and bibliographic services such as Copac, the Archives Hub and Zetoc.

If you would like to deliver an informal presentation on this subject then please indicate this on the booking form. Presentations can last anything between 5-30 minutes. The aim of this event is to share experience and the more people who are willing to do this the more successful the event will be.
