Grade 7: Salary £28,983 - £35,646 p.a.

Applications are invited for a statistical bioinformatician/geneticist in the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM). The Institute is located at the John Radcliffe Hospital site in Headington, and is part of the University of Oxford. This is a unique position jointly funded by a 5-year Wellcome Trust Programme and the MRC for the Computational Biology Research Group (CBRG).

This position will allow the successful candidate to play a key role in a multi-disciplinary research project targeted to study rare pathogenic mutations in human sperm and their impact on evolution and disease, within the Clinical Genetics Group led by Prof Andrew Wilkie. For the other component of the post (CBRG), you will be involved in developing statistical and bioinformatics tools to support the research projects of other WIMM groups who require in-depth analysis of public and in-house data generated by next generation sequencing, expression arrays and genetic studies.

The Clinical Genetics Group component of this post is led by Professor Andrew Wilkie and is a collaboration with Professor Gil McVean (Statistical Genetics, the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics) and Dr Anne Goriely. The CBRG component of the post is under the supervision of Mr Stephen Taylor.

Applicants should have a strong up-to-date background in statistics and its applications to genetics. Good computational and mathematical skills are essential, as well as a PhD in a relevant area of research.
