Who knows what these reference ranges are. And derived values may include Haemoglobin in the calculation. I have always assumed that the equations were themselves determined using adult samples and therefore adult haemoglobin.  What does this mean for a fetal/ neonatal sample? If your neonatologists/ paediatricians/obstetricians believe these numbers, then who's deluding whom?
Cynically yours

Thanks for your reply Janice.

To clarify we do the same. However the paediatricians/neonatologists still would like us to assist them and provide age related reference ranges for their use 'off analyser'. So far IL have been unable or reluctant to provide any, to my knowledge. I agree the ranges may well not be straightforward.

After much discussion with our Paediatric Consultants it was decided not to put reference ranges on the IL GEM 4000 analyser, as with neonates gestational age and post partum age and maturity need to be considered. We have included panic ranges to flag grossly abnormal results. Reference ranges also mean you get a printout a mile long.

Hello

Do any of you have infant/paedatric blood gas reference ranges suitable to use with IL Gem 4000 blood gas analyser results?

Regards, Steve
