It’s a forget-me-not flower. The freemasons in Germany use a similar badge because of a legend that it was a secret signal of membership while freemasonry was banned under the Nazis, they are commercially made even now. I don’t recognise the letters at first sight though so this may not be masonic.

Not volcanic-ash related, but a little badge!
Attached image shows a small badge brought in by an enquirer, with the initials NOPWC around the centre.
It may stand for 'National Old People's Welfare Committee', set up in the 1940s, or may represent something entirely different!
If anyone has any thoughts, I'd be really interested.
