Hi Ian
Thanks for your email.
Your nearest workshop is Bristol which is 78 miles away from
Reading – not too far a trek and easily manageable if you apply for one of our
travel and accommodation bursaries which we are offering too.
We have no plans or funding to run anything else in the near
future so I do hope you can juggle your plans to attend one of the three
seminars.

Subject: Re: [PSCI-COM] Evaluation workshops for STEM providers
Hi Sarah
I would love to come to one of the evaluation seminars but they are either way
too far away to make it worthwhile or I am unavailable.
I don't suppose there is any chance of you running one in somewhere like
Reading is there? Then people in my part of the world might be able to make it.
I have finally got hold of a copy the guidance leaflet. Any chance of telling
small time operators like me what sort of assessment we should do without
having to come to a seminar?
All the best
Ian

Attendance at these workshops is FREE OF CHARGE and a
limited number of bursaries for travel and accommodation for these
seminars has been provided by the National STEM Centre. If you would like to be
considered for a bursary, please tell us why you need support when you register
(you must include approximate costs).
One of the key aims of STEM Enhancement & Enrichment
providers is to help young people, teachers, schools and colleges to
participate fully in STEM. Evaluating activities appropriately is
essential to providing schools and colleges with confidence that activities are
worthwhile and matched to their students’ needs. Effective evaluation is also a
crucial way to assure funders that their money is being well spent, and helps
you as STEM providers ensure that your activities are operating as effectively
and efficiently as possible.
The Royal Academy of Engineering and the British Interactive
Group (BIG) are working together to offer active seminars supporting
you as STEM providers in understanding and implementing effective evaluation;
the seminars will provide evaluation tools, resources, and information about
support networks. Each one-day event aims to address needs raised by the STEM
Directories’ future requirement that you make publicly available an appropriate
evaluation of your work.
The seminars are intended to provide basic knowledge about
simple and suitable evaluation and start you on the road to developing
evaluations of your own. Thanks to funding from the Royal Academy of
Engineering, the seminars are provided free of charge and a limited amount of
financial support for travel and accommodation has also been provided by the
National STEM Centre.

Delegates should note that
the July seminar runs alongside the first day of the British Interactive Group
(BIG) Event (21 – 23 July at the Centre for Life and CultureLab, Newcastle).
The BIG Event is BIG’s annual
conference, attracting around 150 delegates over three days. The Event aims to
bring together individuals in the field of STEM E&E provision to share
skills and ideas, improve practice, join the important discussions in the STEM
agenda, and grow the network of STEM professionals. A wide range of
professionals attend, including freelancers and those based in organisations
such as universities, professional bodies, science centres, museums, zoos,
education support centres and NGOs.
Delegates for this seminar are
welcome to attend the following days of the BIG Event (22-23 July) but will
need to register for it separately.
Evening networking event
If attending the July seminar,
you are invited to attend an early–evening networking event of drinks and
hands-on science hosted by the Centre for Life on Wednesday 21 July. Please
contact BIG for further information.
