Dear Colleagues,

Please see below details of a short term research consultancy for OSI. It is an interesting project, one that I am involved with.

This is the first time it has been advertised and they need expressions of interest (not long proposals as it is not a lot of work) by end of next week.

Best wishes

Damian

OPEN SOCIETY INSTITUTE

Call for proposals

The Open Society Institute seeks a senior UK MEDIA POLICY EXPERT to prepare a short report on the impact of digital media in the UK.

We seek a report of c. 50 pages, to be prepared between September and December 2010.

A fee and reasonable research expenses will be provided. (Details on

request.)

The Open Society Media Program is conducting a global survey of the impact of digitisation on audiovisual news, from south-east Asia to Latin America, from western Europe to southern Africa and Japan. The "Mapping Digital Media" project will explain the complexities of digital media in plain terms, examine how the digital revolution impacts on the traditional agenda of media freedom, and propose models for transition that would best serve the public interest. It will be useful to policy-makers, regulators and other standard-setters, journalists, donors, activists and concerned citizens.

In the UK, we are looking for a lead researcher and one or two assistants. The lead researcher is likely to be an experienced consultant or academic, with broad interests. The assistants might be graduate students, NGO activists, or journalists.

Contact: Marius Dragomir ([log in to unmask]) or Mark Thompson ([log in to unmask]).

Deadline: 5 pm, Friday, 25 June.

The Open Society Institute is a charity that works on strengthening democracy. More information is available at http://www.soros.org/about/overview. The Media Program assists in the development and establishment of media systems marked by freedom, pluralism, and the inclusion of minority voices and opinions. Previous research is available at www.mediapolicy.org

Hi Natalie and everyone - yes - in hand already. Des Freedman has spoken to Christian, and he's willing to  come - just need to sort out a date.

perhaps some time in July? (I'm in London the week of 12th -16th July and I'd very much like to be able to attend.)

Subject: Re: [MECCSA-POLICY] FW: Re-shaping Today's BBC for Tomorrow - BBC Chairman Speaks to Licence Fee Payers

Hi Maire,

I think the ICT policy focus is a good and interesting one. Christian
Fuch's work on this is very interesting - maybe we should hold a Policy
Network event and ask him to come to speak to us? We could approach him and
see if he is passing through London at any point in the near future or
request some MeCCSa funds to bring him here?
