We started issuing items
to ghost readers about a year ago. Initially, we simply intended to monitor
usage of books when staff used the libraries overnight, but fairly soon began to
issue and return all books left lying around, albeit in a somewhat haphazrd
manner. Last year such issues amounted to 982, out ot a total of 20528 issues
and renewals, i.e. about 4.8% of the total.
