Summary:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate in the Health Economics and Decision 
Science (HEDS) section of the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR). HEDS is one of the 
largest groups of health economists in the UK, and aims to promote excellence in national and 
international healthcare resource allocation decisions, through applied and theoretical research.

The post-holder will spend approximately half their time working with a  team of health economists 
on a Medical Research Council (MRC) funded project: Preparatory study for the Re-evaluation of 
the EQ-5D Tariff (PRET). This research project will explore a number of methodological issues in 
health state valuation. The post-holder will also contribute to another MRC-funded project called 
NICEQoL (Generic and condition-specific quality of life measures for NICE decision-making),
which is a joint project with the Brunel University, and other research projects in HEDS, one of 
which involves assisting in the analysis of NICEQoL data.

The post-holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running of PRET, which will include 
coordinating surveys of members of the general public (a large scale web-based on-line survey and 
three separate face to face interview surveys), and carrying out econometric analyses of the 
results. Work on literature reviews and secondary data analyses, will also be required, as will
liaising with the project team at the Brunel University for NICEQoL.

You will have a Masters or PhD (or be working towards a PhD) in health economics or a related 
discipline, and have an understanding of research governance and ethics. You will also have 
experience of designing surveys, and excellent quantitative analytical skills. An understanding of 
preference-based  measures of health is also essential.

This post is available immediately and is fixed term for a period of 2 years.
