Creating Capacity invites you to learn with peers on 3 exciting courses focused on copyright and the digital world

Creating Capacity:

Learning programmes to develop confidence and inspire the profession now and for the future

Creating Capacity is an organisation with a social enterprise ethos endorsed by MLA and supported by Renaissance London.  We deliver high quality learning programmes at an affordable price to ensure the training needs of the sector are sustained for the long-term.  In this email we’re letting you know about courses on the digital world and copyright; but you may well find other courses of interest to you so do check out our website for the full programme.

Copyright Essentials

This is a practical course with lots of opportunities for sharing experiences and learning from colleagues.  Participants will be introduced to the tools they need to manage copyright as part of their daily work in museums, libraries, archives and cultural heritage organisations.  It will examine copyright issues in detail including how to carry out a copyright audit, understanding the legal requirements of copyright and how to manage risks.  By the end of the course you’ll have a thorough understanding of the needs of your organisation when managing your own and other people’s intellectual property.

The course details are:

Date: 22 June 2010

Time: 10:00 – 16:30

Price: £120 plus VAT per delegate, including all papers, lunch and refreshments

Trainers: Naomi Korn has helped a large number of organisations over 10 years to embed good copyright practice into their work, manage and organise their rights, assess their risks and develop accessible toolkits to handle compliance issues and rights exploitation.

Digital Storytelling

As Museum, library and archive professionals you know the importance of telling compelling stories as a way of interpreting collections, engaging with visitors and users, reaching out to those who haven’t yet used your services and approaching funders.  In this course participants will be able to learn how to plan a digital story, build a storyboard and understand how to make the most of sound and images using effective editing techniques.  You’ll learn how to upload your materials to the web and embed them in your website.  This course will bring you practical skills which you’ll be able to use immediately to improve the ways in which your stories are told.

The course details are:

Date: 23 June 2010

Time: 10:00 – 16:30

Price: £145 plus VAT per delegate, including all papers, lunch and refreshments

Trainers: sounddelivery is a dynamic training, production and communications agency.  They are passionate about storytelling.  They use a BBC trained team to help organisations shape and sharpen their messages and navigate the changing media landscape to find new and exciting ways to get their stories heard.

Monetising your assets in a digital world

Naomi Korn comes back to Creating Capacity for Museums, Libraries and Archives to help participants understand the value of intellectual property and other cultural assets.  She’ll be providing a practical interactive event at which you’ll learn how the digital environment will support your work, the protection of assets in this context and seeing what the cost / benefit implications are of working in this way.  The day is tailored to the needs of staff and volunteers in museums, libraries, archives and the cultural heritage sector who want to understand how to make the most of assets using digital resources.  It will help you understand which assets can be used in this way and how to understand your own requirements in making this an effective use of time and money.
