Copyright Essentials
This is a
practical course with lots of opportunities for sharing experiences and
learning from colleagues. Participants will be introduced to the tools they
need to manage copyright as part of their daily work in museums, libraries,
archives and cultural heritage organisations. It will examine copyright issues
in detail including how to carry out a copyright audit, understanding the legal
requirements of copyright and how to manage risks. By the end of the course
you’ll have a thorough understanding of the needs of your organisation
when managing your own and other people’s intellectual property.

Digital Storytelling
As Museum,
library and archive professionals you know the importance of telling compelling
stories as a way of interpreting collections, engaging with visitors and users,
reaching out to those who haven’t yet used your services and approaching
funders. In this course participants will be able to learn how to plan a
digital story, build a storyboard and understand how to make the most of sound
and images using effective editing techniques. You’ll learn how to
upload your materials to the web and embed them in your website. This course
will bring you practical skills which you’ll be able to use immediately
to improve the ways in which your stories are told.

Monetising your assets in a digital world
Naomi Korn
comes back to Creating Capacity for Museums, Libraries and Archives to help
participants understand the value of intellectual property and other cultural
assets. She’ll be providing a practical interactive event at which
you’ll learn how the digital environment will support your work, the
protection of assets in this context and seeing what the cost / benefit
implications are of working in this way. The day is tailored to the needs of
staff and volunteers in museums, libraries, archives and the cultural heritage
sector who want to understand how to make the most of assets using digital
resources. It will help you understand which assets can be used in this way
and how to understand your own requirements in making this an effective use of time
and money.
