 * Are you passionate about what science and technology can achieve?
 * Join CSIRO - Australia's national science agency! Apply today!
The position:
We are seeking a talented research statistician to take an exciting senior role in our team of environmental statisticians in Brisbane. The successful applicant will work on a range of interesting problems relevant to Australia's marine, freshwater and terrestrial environments.
You will contribute high level statistical science to help understand how these environments behave and respond to human influence and intervention. Innovative contributions will be required around the design of monitoring and experimental programs, and the modelling of environmental processes in space and time.
This position will have a stronger marine/coastal and freshwater focus, where the Group has specialist domain knowledge in environmental and fisheries policy development and management. The precise mix will depend to some extent on the successful applicant's skills and interests.
Projects that the Environmetrics Research Group has recently led or participated in include:

 * estimating abundances and biomasses for the International Whaling Commission and selected Australian Commonwealth fisheries
 * developing spatial statistical models for extreme rainfall
 * developing new methodology for estimating uncertainty in biophysical process models
 * predicting sediment and nutrient loads being exported from coastal catchments to the Great Barrier Reef
 * establishing novel techniques for understanding and mapping marine benthic biodiversity
 * developing new Bayesian approaches to adaptive environmental management.
The Group works closely with environmental scientists, both within and outside CSIRO, and natural resource managers.
The successful applicant will be willing and able to mentor other statisticians in the Group and deliver and communicate high-level technical solutions to a variety of audiences.
