You hit the nail on the head, although its not just security.
Look at the Google terms of service.
You have to be assured that:-
The content you are sharing is not protectively marked
You do not mind if the content is read by anyone anywhere
You are not bothered if it is not recovered if there is a
service outage
What if Google change the application software – digital preservation
etc?
How long will it remain free to use?
When will advertising revenue be part of the suite?
Think, how do Google make money out of this?
Some, I am aware, have negotiated service standards with Google,
you need to think of this as Cloud computing, particularly if you are using Google
application software.
This does not decry Google as a tool, it merely presents a few
challenges for you to overcome.

Subject: Google docs
Have any of
you considered using sites such as Google docs as a means of storing and
sharing documents with third parties?
I
understand it’s a free and workable solution to help with storage and
sharing information but am nervous around the security of such sites.
Any thoughts
or views would be welcome
