A post-doc (1 year) position in the theoretical chemistry group of Leiden University.

Promoting effect of vibrational pre-excitation on dissociative chemisorption of CH4 on Ni(111).

A post-doc (1 year) position is available immediately, in the theoretical chemistry group of Leiden University.

The research will focus on the promoting effect of vibrational pre-excitation on dissociative chemisorption of CH4 on Ni(111). Experiments have shown that pre-exciting different normal modes of CH4 affect its reactivity on the Ni(111) surface in different ways. The aim of the project is to explain this effect through quantum dynamical calculations, while modeling the motion in as many vibrational degrees of freedom of the molecule as possible.

The project is funded by CW/NWO, through a so-called TOP-grant. The project will be supervised by Geert-Jan Kroes.

Requirements:

Applicants for the post-doc position should have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, or Applied Mathematics, and have experience with computational methods relevant to molecule-surface reaction dynamics. The position is open to all nationalities.

Appointment:
The appointment will be for a period of 1 year. The starting date is flexible up to fall (autumn) 2010. An extension may be possible if a grant application to be filed in the near future will be succesful.

Applications:
To be considered for the project, applicants should send an application letter, CV, and publication list, and should arrange themselves that three letters of recommendation are sent to Prof. Dr. Geert-Jan Kroes, by email ([log in to unmask]). Selection of candidates will start on June 1 2010 and will continue until the position is filled.
