She analyses the roles of doctors, the background of the pioneer Scottish occupational therapists, the foundation and development of the professional organisation, and occupational therapy education. The book is based on extensive original archival and oral history research by the author, who herself enjoyed a successful career in occupational therapy, becoming founding director of the Grampian School of Occupational Therapy.
