italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

We are pleased to announce the 2010 Leeds Centre for Dante Studies Essay Prize, for undergraduates at universities in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Departments, rather than individual students, should select and submit essays. The Head of Department, Examinations Officer or their representative, should complete the form available at http://www.leeds.ac.uk/italian/cdsessayprize.htm, and submit it with their entries. Essays should, wherever possible, be submitted in a 'clean' copy, without the comments and/or mark of the original marker. Essays should not exceed 3,000 words.

There are two prizes: one for students in their final year, and one for students in their second year. Departments should select one nominee in each category, and submit essays to Matthew Treherne, Leeds Centre for Dante Studies, Department of Italian, University of Leeds, Leeds, LS2 9JT, UK, together with the form. The deadline is 30 June 2010.

The essay will be judged by a panel of three Dante scholars based in the UK, and one international adjudicator.

The prize for final-year students is a £30 book token; the second-year prize is £20. We are grateful to the Society for Italian Studies for their support for this prize.
