ABOUT THE ARTIST AND HIS ART:

Andrey Shirokov is a member of the Union of Russia's Artists. His style can

be described as realistic impressionism. Despite the recognition of his

work in Russia and abroad, he chooses to live in his native town. Andrey

Shirokov's paintings are inspired by nature, the cultural heritage of

Russia, and a simple yet meaningful lifestyle of Russia's rural

communities. His works convey sincere love for his native land, and a

unique view of life.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Caroline Humphrey is a Professor of Collaborative Anthropology at the

University of Cambridge. She has conducted fieldwork in the USSR

(Siberia), post-Soviet RussiaNepal, IndiaMongolia and China (Inner

Mongolia). She is the author of the book "The Unmaking of Soviet Life:

everyday economies after socialism" (2002) and co-editor of "Urban Life in

Post-Soviet Central Asia" (2007).
