Hello all

"Abduction" is used differently by different writers.  Possible the most
common usage follows C.S. Peirce (pronounced "purse", by the way).  In
some of his writing he called it "retroduction".

I don't have time to look up some of the examples.  Most of them go
something like this.

  I observe X, which is surprising.

  If Y were true, X wouldn't be surprising.

  Therefore I hypothesise that Y is true, and test the hypothesis.
