Doing everything in stages is sometimes the only option. We use OPAS with a document management system. We have some 30 - 40,000 sets of noes on our system. All paperwork,is scanned. Emails and letters are "sent" to the document management system. Clinical notes are currently hand written during the consultation because it doesn't sit comfortably with us to tap away on the keyboard. This may change in due course. Needlesticks/contaminations are entered on a questionnaire directly into the OPAS system. All vaccination are directly entered. Is OPAS better than other systems - I don't know as I haven't used others. We raise all invoices and audit using OPAS. We can search for any word in any record as the document management system takes the files as OCR. We are about to start using the text and emailing systems to reduce the DNA rates. We have also purchased the touch screen. You do need buy in. Stages can help this. Planning helps even more. Happy to be contacted offline if you want any more info Jean -----Original Message----- From: Lindsey Hall <[log in to unmask]> To: [log in to unmask] Sent: Tue, 13 Apr 2010 18:33 Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] OH Software Hi all I would also be interested in views as a company I am working with is also looking at this issue. From feedback I have heard from others, Cohort appears to be much preferred over others in the market, although it appears, not for everyone. From previous experience of paper and paperless (oh providers own) systems, my view is that is has be all or nothing. If you are going to use an IT system it has be the core of everything you do, you have all the training you can afford, everyone has a login (none of this "I'll log on in the morning and then you can in the afternoon" tosh), all external correspondence received into the department is scanned and the paper is as good as locked away from Day 1. Only then will it work. The moment someone tries to keep a paper diary as a back up or can't update the system in real time, you've lost it, and might aswell return to full time paper otherwise duplication rules your day. You should also be able to use it as a workflow management system so yes, it should flag up when someone has arrived provided the receptionist has put the message in your workflow. We too struggle with cohort but we accept that we don't use it to its potential. We have a training day soon to explore what it can do for us. Any of you using cohort - can it wok like the GP system where the person reports to reception, receptionist enters the person has arrived and the system immediately flags it up to the clinician? Our attempt to go paper lite has resulted in duplication of multiple tasks and a general distrust of the system. However... I'm not sure that the system is entirely to blame. From previous experience we have had paperless systems, the director just decided that this is what we were going to do and had to drive to just change it. He had the enthusiasm and determination to drive it through, there was no option to do anything different. -----Original Message----- From: [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> [mailto:[log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> ] On Behalf Of Alana Otway Sent: 13 April 2010 09:30 To: [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] OH Software We are currently looking at implementing a Occ Health software system as an aim to go paperless.
