Hi Sharon
He states the wax build up causes headaches when he wears the hat! I agree with you it is off beam. Mgt are only too aware he will have to wear it but want me to advise on ear care before they take it further. I just wondered if anyone else had ever heard of this excuse, but obviously not!

Are they saying the hat causes the wax or because of the wax they cant wear the hat? Either way sounds a bit off beam - if its PPE and it has to be worn he needs to comply one way or the other I would think. Look at other hats - but ultimately if he doesnt want to wear one then its for the managers to work out what to do with him. I had a case where the individual convinced himself that he couldnt wear PPE, we couldnt determine any clinical rationale for it apart from a strong personal belief that he "just couldnt" - cost him his job in the end and he was unsuccessful at ET

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Hard hats/headaches and blocked ears

Dear all

Has anyone ever come across a member of staff who states they cannot wear a hard hat due to build up of ear wax? It is a new one for me and I have heard many!

Just interested to know before I see them and advise on ear care. I have already advised management to try another type of hat. They do not need to wear hearing protection.

Thanks
Pippa
