The committees of CILIP South East Branch and CILIP in the Thames Valley are pleased to announce that lunch for our joint AGM and workshop will be on us!

So that means that CILIP members get lunch, attending the AGM, the workshop, and networking for free! Non-CILIP members will have to pay £15, but that's a bargain for what you're getting.

This is going to be a great event, so we hope as many of you can join us as possible. Please register in advance by contacting [log in to unmask] and confirm if you will be joining us for lunch at 1 or just for the workshop.

Regards,
Elizabeth Schlackman

Subject: Joint AGM and Advocacy workshop - 4th May

*apologies for cross-posting*

CILIP South East Branch and CILIP in the Thames Valley joint AGM, Tuesday 4th May 2010, 1-4.30 in the Waterhouse Chamber, The Town Hall, Reading
(just 5 minutes walk from the station, http://www.conferences-uk.org.uk/Reading.asp?venue=The%20Town%20Hall%20Reading )

How do you get recognition for the work you and your library/information service provide? How can you demonstrate value to your users and your employers?

Join us at the joint CILIP South East/CILIP in the Thames Valley AGM, and discover how you can promote yourself and your service, and the benefits of doing so in an era of change and possible cuts.

Librarians are often mystified by the term advocacy: what does it mean? how do you do it? We are offering an afternoon with a library advocacy specialist, Linda Constable, author of CILIP's Advocacy Campaigning Toolkit, who will provide an overview of the concept of advocacy, an introduction to the toolkit, and - importantly - a workshop to help you begin to identify actions you can take to demonstrate to your wider organisation or community the role you and your services play in helping them achieve their goals and aspirations.

The event will begin at 1pm with a sandwich lunch (optional; at a cost of £7.50), followed by the AGMs at 1.30; the workshop will run from 2-4.30.

All CILIP members are welcome, and the event is free to attend although booking is essential so we know numbers for catering. Non-members are also welcome, at a charge of £15.

To book a place, please contact [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> and confirm if you will be joining us for lunch at 1 or just for the workshop.

If you are able to come earlier, you may wish to visit the Museum, also in the Town Hall. There will be our normal evening meeting at Great Expectations in London Street at 6 for 6.30 where there will be a focus group-type discussion on the future of the profession.
