Dear colleagues and friends,

I would like to draw your interest to the New MLitt Programme in Italian Studies
- University of St Andrews, Scotland. I would be very grateful if you could

MLitt in ITALIAN STUDIES

Director: Dr Rossella Riccobono

Entrance Requirements: A good degree with Honours from a UK University or its
equivalent. Linguistic proficiency in spoken and written English and Italian.

Programme duration: One year (taught)

Aim of Programme: This degree offers students the opportunity to further their
studies in Italian Literature and Culture through textual study, critical
reflection and analysis in order to enter the field of postgraduate studies and
research, or to refine their interest in Italian and transfer the learned skills
across to a non-academic career. Students are encouraged to develop a specific
literary or cultural pathway of research in relation to their growing
understanding of the subject area. In-depth training in library research and
editorial and archival work will be ensured by a supervised study visit to a
prestigious Italian National Library, normally The Marciana Library in Venice
during the month of June.

Programme Content: It consists of one core research skills module on the theory
and practice of literary research, complemented by optional modules in the
following periods and areas: Italian Linguistics, Mediaeval Poetry (including
Dante), Italian Renaissance (including Theatre), eighteenth and
nineteenth-century Literature, Modernist and Postmodern Literature, Italian
Cinema. ‘Special Subject’ and ‘Directed Reading’ modules are also available.
The MLitt normally concludes with a dissertation of 15,000 words on an agreed
topic.
