Dear All

I hold the ISEB Certificate, and found it a course well worth taking. Chris Pounder is in a better position than I to comment on uptake. This may have been influenced by the fact that few training organisations were accredited to provide the course. Cost was an issue, but a greater influence would have been how seriously organisations took their responsibilities under the Act, and how highly they regarded the ICO. I have heard the phrase 'What's the IC going to do about it anyway' uttered even by lawyers. Maybe the IC's recently increased powers may persuade them to change their minds. We should also take into account the LLM 'Information Rights Law and Practice', which provides a more comprehensive training in this field and carries a higher educational status.

I too have found few person specifications asking specifically for the ISEB qualification, but it certainly helps you get an interview if you have it.

Hi All,

May I ask has there been much uptake for the ISEB Data Protection certificate? I have never seen a person specification ask for it or hear anyone claim to have it.

Regards.

Today I came across a reference to the Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection; it seems to have been launched by PDP Training with ICO backing and accreditation by the Law Society. See http://privacydataprotection.co.uk/training/certification/dp/

Anyone know any more about this course? Given that there is the existing ISEB course is there really a need for a second accredited short training course?

regards,

Kevin
