Background to RCOMH
RCOMH was established in 2009 as an international focal point for bringing people together who are involved in research into occupation and mental health. Its mission is:
To develop world class research in occupation and mental health to influence best practice.
This is being achieved by:
- providing leadership in research in the field of occupation, mental health and well being
- having a global perspective (i.e. 'Research in action: local and global')
- empowering service users to actively participate in research programmes and the activity of RCOMH
- focussing on the relationships between occupation, mental health and well being
- developing, facilitating and leading coordinated programmes of research
- promoting ownership of and responsibility for this research agenda creating collaborative and reciprocal relationships between researchers
We have six research programmes:
1. Arts and creativity (led by Sarah Cook),
2. Boredom (led by Hilary Williams),
3. Work, mental health and wellbeing (led by Katrina Bannigan),
4. Occupation and mental health in forensic and prison services (jointly led by Louise Farnworth and Crystal Grass)
5. Occupation and Older People's Mental Health (led by Alison Laver Fawcett)
