JOB TITLE:  Digitisation Officer (Band B)

JOB DETAILS: 
This is a unique opportunity to join Kew’s Data and Digital Team within the Library, Art and Archives section, to support the conversion of the Directors' Correspondence archive collection into digital assets. 

This role will primarily be responsible for the digitisation of correspondence from Asia, enabling storage and retrieval of digital assets through preparation of material for scanning (listing and defining items), imaging of material, databasing of material, creation of metadata records, image quality control, and quality assurance. The central aim of this externally funded project, generously supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is to significantly enhance access to this collection, perceived to be one of the most important in Kew’s Archives.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be 1 of 3 Digitisation Officers whose actions and outputs are essential in ensuring the achievement of the digitisation project objectives: to complete the digitisation of the collection within the allotted time and to maintain a high standard of digitised output

This role will also contribute to Kew staff magazine and the Kew LAA blog in order to promote the project and increase awareness of the Directors' Correspondence collection.

ESSENTIALS: 

•	5 × GCSE or equivalent at grade C or above, including Biology/Botany/Science, Maths and English
•	Standard computer proficiency in Microsoft Office. Working knowledge of common word processing, spreadsheet and database programmes
•	Good standard of written English, and ability to summarise text 
•	The ability to communicate in a clear manner, orally and in writing
•	Able to handle delicate, valuable manuscripts in a careful and responsible manner.
•	Ability to effectively plan and prioritise work, and keep meticulous records
•	Ability to collect and interpret data and make sound decisions within scope of the project
•	Ability to investigate and resolve problems, in consultation with appropriate staff. Clear and logical thinking is required
•	Ability to work independently with purpose, after initial training
•	A polite and helpful manner when dealing with colleagues and visitors. Clear, accurate thinking and attention to detail
