Lecturer in Medical Statistics
Biostatistics Group
School of Health & Population Sciences.

We are seeking a suitably qualified Medical Statistician with a track record of both teaching and research in medical statistics to lead the development of online training materials and distance learning courses.   This unique position will work with our experienced team of medical statistics lecturers and e-learning experts to develop modular web-based materials to support existing courses, and allow provision of distance learning options in basic statistics, epidemiology and research methods.

In addition the successful applicant will contribute statistical expertise to health research programmes active within the College, and be encouraged to collaborate or develop applied statistical research projects to complement the existing research work of the Biostatistics Group.

The successful applicant will be expected to have a first degree and a postgraduate degree in statistics (a substantial part of which relates to medical statistics) as well as experience in teaching, facilitating and delivery of training in medical statistics, working as a collaborator on health-related projects or methodological research and fluency in aspects of study design and analysis. The successful applicant will also have key skills in communication, planning and organising, ability to explain complex statistical issues to non-statisticians and grasp complex clinical research problems.  Candidates with proven experience in developing e-learning materials will be preferred.

The Biostatistics Group is based within Public Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, part of the College of Medical and Dental Sciences. The group is co-located with other units undertaking related work on test evaluations, systematic reviews and health technology assessments including the West Midlands Health Technology Assessment Collaboration.

The post is offered at full time for 3 years.

Starting salary in the range of £36,715 to £43,840 a year (potential progression on performance once in post to £49,342)

Senior Lecturer in Medical Statistics

The post-holder will take responsibility for the coordination and delivery of medical statistics teaching across the undergraduate medical curriculum, and lead the organisation of a statistical support service across the College of Medical and Dental Sciences, supported by our experienced team of medical statistics lecturers and researchers.

In addition the successful applicant will contribute statistical expertise to health research programmes active within the College, and be encouraged to collaborate or lead applied statistical research projects to complement the existing research work of the Biostatistics Group.
