You may have to persist with the (not very) “interactive”
website.
It is one of the slowest I have encountered. It also falls over
regularly, and breaks RSS readers.
It is not running well today.
Alice Bell kindly provided a livelier link:
http://www.bis.gov.uk/starting-a-national-conversation-about-good-science
Unfortunately, that also lands you on the interactive site.
As with other reports in this series, ignore the “download”
button in Scribd. Go for the link just above it. (Good to have that there.) Then
scroll down for the supporting documents.

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Science and Trust report published today
Dear All,
Published
today, the Science and Trust Expert Group Report – Starting a National
Conversation about Good Science, calls for a new attitude to trust in the UK,
and an acceptance that healthy but informed scepticism is preferable to a
society where people blindly and unquestionably trust sciences and scientists.
The Group also concluded
that, to support a culture which is equipped to make informed judgements, the
focus should be on enabling greater discussion of risk and uncertainty, and
opening up debate around the processes involved in the production of scientific
knowledge. There is much good work occurring across the board to work towards
this, but the Group calls for greater co-ordination of activity; this relates
to the wider themes covered in the report, including ethical codes, supporting
processes and communication of ethical issues and governance.
You can download the full report
and comment on the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills website:
This is the
final report in the Science and Society Expert Group series which resulted
from the Science and Society Consultation in 2008. All of the reports can be
accessed via the BIS interactive site: http://interactive.bis.gov.uk/scienceandsociety
We look
forward to receiving comments on all of the reports.
