Actually, I was referencing the Greek poet.  I'm uncertain who first said he "nods" in an attempt to describe how Homer doesn't always write at a "great" level, but I believe I heard the words exit Donald Finkel's mouth when I was 19.  To be distinguished from, "Who nodded out after shooting up a dose of Delmore Schwartz?"
