medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

[ OT with apologies ... Yes, Marjorie, a boot is a "trunk" and a Car Boot sale is a disposal of (usually personal) second hand goods. They generally take place in car parks ("parking lots" ??) or fields where the cars are admitted for a fee and then the car drivers & his / her mates / family set up a stall or table adjacent to the said car. They can be jolly social events, sometimes in aid of charity but more usually a way of raising cash or of disposing of your late grandma's household goods. They are a blessing for burglars and loathed by the police! They can be a problem for the litter collectors too ("garbage / trash disposal men "??). Our local one takes place in a field owned by the Ministry of Defence on Sunday mornings (sigh!) and the cleaning up is done very efficiently by a Naval Chief Petty Officer and a team of Ratings. All is left Shipshape and Bristol Fashion by 2pm.]

I suspect the thing is 19th C myself .... But yes, it's a gem. It could have come from Russia post 1918 or anywhere in Eastern Europe post 1945. It might even have been made in Walsingham c. 1979 (:-) ......

medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture I'm guessing a "car boot (trunk?) sale" is the equivalent of an American "garage-" or "yard sale"? How can that guy think of parting with such a lovely thing?
        Pardon the non-medieval, non-religious question...

There are the usual journalistic blunders in this but the picture is pretty.

          Any comments ?
