HI Peter,

I am just about to hand in a dissertation on how the mobile library can
be used to provide other non book services. I have found some examples
of mobiles with "meeting" areas and do have photos but not at work with
me, one was the services for the Blind , which was really just a
curtained area, the other was much nicer and used the drivers area with
sand blasted glass screen which could be closed and the chairs moved
around to form a seating area with a table build in over the engine, but
for the life of me I can't remember who it was, but it was quite recent
at a mobile meet. The next one is at Dewsbury in May, if you are
interested

Subject: Flexible Mobile Libraries

Dear All,

We in Rochdale have secured funding to procure a new mobile library.

Our new mobile library has to be much more than a traditional mobile
library that visits older people and those with mobility problems. It
will visit early years settings, offer Internet access and other common
things. It needs to be used to its maximum potential and meet the needs
of local communities.

To this end, we want to try and introduce an area on the mobile that
allows for confidential conversations to enable a variety of advice
services to use the vehicle. E.g. welfare rights, Revenues and
Benefits, health workers etc. Has anyone combined a confidential space,
e.g. a room at the back of the vehicle, onto a 7.5 tonne mobile library?

Can you contact me if you are aware of any vehicles that combine mobile
library with a confidential area including seating that allow for advice
sessions / computer training.

Has anyone else tried to do what I outline above? If so, with what
success?

I will provide a summary to the list, if I receive some useful examples.

Thanks
Philip
