italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
As universities and school districts become more and more mercenary and managerial, academic and family life is rendered increasingly impossible. I gave a paper at the Antwerp Conference on Changing the University which can be found at <a href="http://www.ringofgold.eu/ArabesqueUniversity.html">http://www.ringofgold.eu/ArabesqueUniversity.html</a>. Nearly twenty years ago I renounced my tenured professorship and ten years ago founded a library where I teach immigrants the alphabet, how to write their names and how to write books in four languages - this is enormously rewarding - while continuing research, editing, writing and publishing. One can give up being an academic while continuing to be a scholar.<br>
