Dear CGF List members:

My apologies for x-posting, but we want this to reach as wide an audience as possible.

The following job has just opened at UBC-Okanagan and we are casting a very wide net to see what kind of scholars might be interested in working with us.  Community, Culture & Global Studies is an interesting and collegial group of scholars working at interdisciplinary connections between Anthropology, Human Geography, Indigenous Studies and Women’s Studies.   The following advert should thus be interpreted very broadly:

Tenure-track position in the areas of Gender and Women's Studies and Indigenous Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor

The Irving K. Barber School of Arts & Sciences—the largest Faculty in the University of British Columbia Okanagan, with more than 33 discipline-based or interdisciplinary degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels—invites applications for a tenure-track position in the areas of Gender and Women's Studies and Indigenous Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2010. The position will be held in Community, Culture, & Global Studies (http://web.ubc.ca/okanagan/ccgs/welcome.html), within the Barber School.

The preferred candidate will hold a PhD with a focus on issues in Gender/Women's Studies and/or Indigenous Studies. Applicants with a PhD in related disciplines will also be considered. The preferred candidate will possess a record of excellence in research, teaching, and service and be able to teach research methodologies. Additional specialization in the areas of indigenous feminisms and issues, sexualities, popular culture, or transnational feminist theory will be considered an asset.

The Barber School (http://web.ubc.ca/okanagan/ikbarberschool/welcome.html) offers opportunities for world-class research that spans the sciences, social sciences, and humanities within an intimate teaching and learning environment. UBC is consistently ranked among the world’s top 40 universities, and the UBC system comprises two distinct and autonomous campuses in the province of British Columbia—one in Vancouver and the other in Kelowna. Situated in the Okanagan Valley in the southern interior of the province, Kelowna is experiencing rapid growth and is considered one of the most scenic and desirable places to live in Canada.

UBC Okanagan hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from women, visible minority group members, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity, and others who may contribute to further diversification of ideas. However, Canadians and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority. All appointments are subject to budgetary approval.

Applications will be reviewed beginning April 26, 2010. For additional information and the application process, please go to:

It would be great to have feminist geographers apply for this post.  If you require further information about the post, the department, or UBC-Okanagan, please contact our Head. Dr. Mike Evans, at <[log in to unmask]">[log in to unmask]>.

Best wishes,
Lawrence
