Interesting stuff.

The entry for Lewes Town doesn't mention the fact that the ground is
built within the medieval Cluniac priory precinct. The usual
configuration of the ground, including those earth banks, are thought to
have been part of the formal gardens created for Lord's Place, the
Sackville Mansion that replaced the priory! Also, the car park adjacent
to the ground is overlooked by a mystery mound, sometimes called the
Tump, which may be a big barrow, small motte or mini Silbury, depending
on who you believe!

All of which is better than the quality of football played there.

Anyone who knows Lewes will also appreciate the ban on fireworks
mentioned on the sign!

What fun

Martin

This blog is a rather wonderful archaeology of football pitches, home
and away. The grassroots alternative to Played in Britain and the work
of Simon Inglis. Carparking without the carparks; goalmouths without the
grass.

Oh, I seem to have sent the link to my team at home to Spurs! (Ok so we
lost but it was 2-2 at half-time).
